Snoop Dogg’s life story is assembling a cast packed with some of the biggest names and personalities in hip-hop history, and the upcoming movie has now found its Notorious B.I.G.
SwayvoTwain, the recording artist born Michael D’Angelo Archer II, has been cast as Christopher Wallace, the Brooklyn rap legend better known as Biggie Smalls and the Notorious B.I.G., in Universal Pictures’ upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, Snoop.
The casting comes with an especially strong musical connection. SwayvoTwain is the son of late R&B and neo-soul stars D’Angelo and Angie Stone. A recording artist and songwriter himself, he will now take on one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures as part of the movie’s expanding ensemble.
Jonathan Daviss will lead the film as Snoop Dogg, while several other performers have been selected to portray artists and personalities who played important roles in Snoop’s career.
Myles Bullock will appear as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones will portray Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith will play Warren G and Tre Hale has been cast as Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. Laya DeLeon Hayes will portray Snoop’s longtime wife, Shante Broadus.
The latest round of casting also brings Bentley Green aboard as rapper RBX, while Los Angeles rapper G Perico will portray Big Reecie Cup.
Craig Brewer, the filmmaker behind Hustle & Flow, is directing Snoop after rewriting an original screenplay by Joe Robert Cole. Snoop Dogg is closely involved behind the camera as one of the project’s producers, joining Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker.
The movie also carries significance for Snoop’s growing film operation. It will be the first project released through Death Row Pictures’ overall partnership with NBCUniversal Entertainment, bringing the Death Row name into a new chapter beyond its famous recording history.
Music from Snoop Dogg’s extensive catalog is expected to be incorporated into the film, which will trace the career of an artist who went from the Long Beach rap scene to becoming one of the most recognizable figures in entertainment.
Universal Pictures has scheduled Snoop to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027.
