Pantera are heading back to New Orleans in a big way, leading a two-day heavy metal gathering that combines a major homecoming, an album anniversary and a stacked lineup of veteran and contemporary heavy acts.
The Great Nola Trendkill is scheduled for November 20 and 21 at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans. The weekend will mark Pantera’s first performance in the city in 30 years while celebrating three decades since the release of The Great Southern Trendkill.
Pantera will be surrounded by some familiar names and plenty of heavy firepower. Down, Black Label Society, Corrosion of Conformity, Power Trip, Crowbar, Eyehategod, RĀDE, Herakleion and Pig Destroyer are all part of the announced lineup. Organizers have not yet revealed which artists will perform on each day.
The weekend carries another milestone for Philip Anselmo. Down will use the festival as the official release show for Volume V, giving fans an additional reason to make the trip to New Orleans.
Music is only part of the plan. The Great Nola Trendkill will also revive Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Festival, expanding the festivities beyond the arena with horror screenings, special appearances, vendors, artists and other events at locations around the city. Those Housecore Horror activities will require separate admission from the arena concerts.
For Pantera, the New Orleans appearance adds another chapter to the band’s renewed touring era. Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown returned to the stage under the Pantera name in 2022 with guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante, honoring the musical legacy established with late founding members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul.
Since then, the lineup has played major festivals, arena dates and an extended run alongside Metallica, introducing Pantera’s catalog to another generation while bringing longtime fans back to songs that helped reshape heavy metal in the 1990s.
The New Orleans weekend now promises something more concentrated: two days built around Pantera’s history, Anselmo’s Louisiana roots and a collection of bands capable of making Lakefront Arena considerably louder than usual.
General ticket sales for The Great Nola Trendkill are scheduled to begin September 11, following artist and ticketing presales.
