Food purses are having a surprisingly chic moment.
As Delish reports, we’ve already been gifted the Chomps rotisserie chicken bag, a Capri Sun purse, and even a Devil Wears Prada 2 popcorn-bucket handbag. At this point, the only reasonable thing to wonder is what might be coming next.
Wonder no more.
Ms. Betty Crocker herself has just launched “The Betty Ate Collection,” a trio of $89 handbags shaped like slices of cake—and apparently people were very hungry for them, with the first batch completely selling out upon release.
There are three desserts to carry around on your arm: Yellow Cake with chocolate frosting, Triple Chocolate Fudge, and Strawberry Cake with cream cheese frosting. Each vegan-leather purse can also be customized with removable decorations, from candles to strawberries and chocolate accents.
Now You Can Have Your Cake and Wear it, Too
There’s even a tiny red Betty Crocker spoon serving as the zipper pull because Ms. Crocker spares no details. And if you need further proof these qualify as fashion, Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star and noted maximalist Bronwyn Newport has already been spotted carrying one.
“I need all of them 🍰🍰🍰💕,” one person wrote in response to the collection. “May or may not have ordered the strawberry one!” another admitted, while someone else found perhaps the greatest selling point of all: “WOW!!! I CAN WEAR THE CAKE & IT’S CALORIE FREE !!!!”
Another Drop is Set for September 10
If you missed the first batch, don’t start mourning your cake purse just yet. Betty Crocker’s site currently says another round is “in the oven,” with the second drop scheduled for September 10 at 9 a.m. ET, while supplies last.
The handbags arrive alongside a new look for Betty Crocker’s baking aisle lineup. Cake, brownie, cookie, muffin, and bar mixes, along with frostings, are rolling out in redesigned packaging with brighter colors and new product photography.
While the new boxes are here to stay, the cake purses, unfortunately, are considerably harder to snag. And given how quickly round one disappeared, you may want to set an alarm before Betty serves seconds.
