Caitlin Clark turned Chicago into her personal shooting gallery Sunday night, powering the Indiana Fever to a 113-90 victory over the Sky with one of her biggest offensive performances of the season.
Clark poured in 37 points and handed out 10 assists as Indiana snapped a two-game losing streak and finished its road trip with a 3-2 record. Her long-range shooting was especially damaging, as she connected on a career-best eight 3-pointers.
She had plenty of help.
Kelsey Mitchell scored 30 points, giving the Fever a devastating combination in the backcourt. Indiana finished with a franchise-record 18 3-pointers as the Sky struggled to contain an offense that found another gear after halftime.
The turning point arrived in the third quarter. Indiana put together a 13-2 run to create a 71-60 advantage, with Clark and Mitchell doing all the scoring during the surge. Once the Fever established control, Chicago never managed to fully recover.
Indiana’s offensive outburst was even more notable because the Fever were without Aliyah Boston, who missed the game because of a right leg injury. The rest of the lineup helped fill the gap, with Lexie Hull scoring 14 points and Makayla Timpson adding 12.
Chicago entered the night riding a three-game winning streak, but the Sky couldn’t keep pace with Indiana’s barrage.
Natasha Cloud led Chicago with 16 points and seven assists, while Azura Stevens contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. The loss carried consequences beyond the final score. Chicago was eliminated from playoff contention after its defeat combined with Washington’s victory Sunday.
The game also brought another chapter in the growing familiarity between the Fever and Sky.
Their previous meeting on Aug. 8 featured a hard foul by DiJonai Carrington on Sophie Cunningham that added some extra intrigue to Sunday’s rematch. This time, however, the storyline remained mostly on the scoreboard. Cunningham finished with three points in more than 11 minutes, while Carrington scored seven in 18 minutes.
Clark made sure the basketball itself supplied more than enough drama.
For Indiana, the convincing victory offered an emphatic finish to a demanding stretch that included three games in four nights. More importantly, the Fever walked away from Chicago with their offense firing and their star guard setting the pace.
Indiana now returns home to face the Connecticut Sun on Friday night. Chicago has a quicker turnaround, traveling to Connecticut for a Tuesday night matchup.
