Washington is making one of the biggest late offseason moves in the NFL by adding veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs to its roster.
The Commanders have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the four-time Pro Bowler that could be worth as much as $12 million through incentives. The signing brings one of the league’s most accomplished receivers back to his home region after more than a decade in the NFL.
Diggs enters his 12th NFL season with an impressive resume that includes multiple Pro Bowl selections and consistent production. He topped 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh time in the past eight seasons during his lone year with the New England Patriots, continuing to prove he can perform at a high level despite changing teams.
For Washington, the move gives quarterback Jayden Daniels another established playmaker to pair with Terry McLaurin. The addition is expected to make the Commanders’ passing game more dynamic as the franchise looks to build on its offensive potential heading into the 2026 season.
The signing also marks a homecoming for Diggs, who grew up in Maryland and starred at the University of Maryland before beginning an NFL career that included successful stops with Minnesota, Buffalo, Houston and New England.
Earlier this year, Diggs was cleared to continue his career without league discipline after being acquitted in an assault case and subsequently cleared by the NFL under its personal conduct policy. With that behind him, Washington is betting his experience and production can provide an immediate boost to an offense aiming to compete in the NFC.
