Atlanta’s hopes of entering the new NFL season with one of its most promising young defenders took a major hit Tuesday after edge rusher Jalon Walker suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury during training camp.
Walker went down late in practice during an 11-on-11 two-minute drill and remained on the field while trainers evaluated him. After receiving medical attention, he was carted off, leading teammates to gather nearby in a show of support before practice was called off.
Early indications suggest Walker may have torn the ACL in his left knee. The Falcons are awaiting MRI results to determine the full extent of the injury.
The 22-year-old emerged as a key contributor during his rookie season after being selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He finished the year with 5.5 sacks, 36 tackles and two forced fumbles while earning increased responsibilities on Atlanta’s defense.
The organization entered training camp expecting Walker to build on that success as one of the cornerstones of its pass rush. Coaches had also planned to expand his role by taking advantage of his versatility both on the edge and in other defensive packages.
If the injury is confirmed as a torn ACL, Walker would likely miss the entire 2026 season, creating a significant void in a defense that had counted on his continued development. The Falcons are expected to provide an official update once medical testing is complete.
