The world of Friday the 13th is heading back to Camp Crystal Lake, this time with a fresh focus on the woman who started it all.
Peacock has unveiled the first teaser for Crystal Lake, an upcoming prequel series that explores the story of Pamela Voorhees, the grieving mother whose actions launched one of horror’s most enduring franchises. Linda Cardellini takes on the role, stepping into the shoes of the original film’s first killer in a performance that promises to examine the character long before audiences met her in the 1980 classic.
Rather than centering on Jason Voorhees as the masked slasher fans know today, the eight-episode series follows Pamela after the tragic loss of her young son at Camp Crystal Lake. The story traces her emotional decline and the events that ultimately shape one of horror cinema’s most infamous villains.
Set during the 1970s, the series expands the mythology surrounding the Voorhees family while introducing a mix of familiar faces from the original franchise alongside new characters created for the television adaptation.
Crystal Lake is produced by A24 and led by showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, who aims to blend psychological storytelling with the suspense and violence that have defined the franchise for decades.
Fans will not have to wait much longer to return to the cursed campground. Crystal Lake is scheduled to premiere October 15 on Peacock, offering a new perspective on one of horror’s most recognizable stories through the eyes of the woman whose grief changed everything.
