Bob Dylan’s touring band is undergoing another significant change as longtime guitarist Bob Britt has stepped away from the group after more than five years on the road with the legendary singer-songwriter.
Britt, who joined Dylan’s band in 2019, announced that his departure was his own decision and emphasized that he was not dismissed. While he chose not to reveal the personal reasons behind leaving, he expressed appreciation for his fellow musicians and crew members as he moves on to the next chapter of his career.
The timing adds to a period of transition for Dylan’s live lineup. Earlier in the current tour, guitarist Doug Lancio exited the band, with acclaimed jazz guitarist Julian Lage filling in for several performances. Most recently, Chicago guitarist Joel Paterson joined the group for a Texas concert, taking on guitar duties as the tour continued.
Away from the road, Britt says he plans to focus on studio sessions and complete a gospel album by his wife, Etta Britt. He also left the door open to future touring opportunities but indicated that his immediate priorities lie closer to home.
With Dylan’s summer tour still underway, fans will be watching to see whether Paterson, Lage, or another guitarist becomes a permanent part of the band’s evolving lineup.
