A dramatic finish at the Travelers Championship will require one more day to decide a winner after Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland battled through difficult conditions to finish tied at 21 under par.
The final round featured shifting momentum, elite shot making and an extended weather delay that tested every player on the course. Scheffler spent much of the day protecting or reclaiming the lead, but Hovland answered with a strong stretch on the back nine, producing several timely birdies to pull even as the tournament reached its closing holes.
With the championship hanging in the balance, both players had opportunities to capture the title on the 18th green. Neither converted a birdie, but Scheffler calmly holed a pressure-packed par putt to keep the match level and send the tournament beyond regulation.
As darkness settled over the course following the lengthy rain interruption, officials suspended play before the playoff could begin. The two golfers will return Monday morning for a sudden death playoff on the 18th hole to determine the champion.
While Scheffler and Hovland commanded the spotlight, Collin Morikawa nearly stole the tournament with a spectacular closing round of 61, finishing only one stroke short after charging up the leaderboard.
Instead of crowning a winner on Sunday evening, the Travelers Championship will conclude with one final head-to-head showdown between two of the world’s best players.
