Multi-State Clover Hill Dairy Cheese Recall Expands After 1 Death & 8 Hospitalizations

Stacks of different kinds of cheeses, with a wedge of blue cheese center front

Your cheese drawer is officially in trouble, as a recent recall has now expanded to include Clover Hill Dairy’s entire cheese line.

As Delish reports, previously, the recall applied only to the brand’s requesón and soft ricotta cheeses after testing detected Listeria monocytogenes, but it has since grown exponentially. Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and anyone with a weakened immune system. So far, the recalled cheese has been linked to one death, eight hospitalizations, and nine reported illnesses.

All affected Clover Hill Dairy products were sold directly from the company’s retail market at farmers markets, as well as through third-party distributors in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Shoppers should also pay close attention to labeling, since the recalled cheese may have been repackaged and sold under different brands name, including Kesso, Quesos La Ricura, Izalco, De Mi Pueblo, and Rio Lindo.
