Burger King Updates its Whopper for First Time in 10 Years

Fast food chains launch new menu items at lightning speed, so it’s nearly impossible to name every item on a menu at any given time. However, most chains have one iconic food that is the face of the brand, like McDonald’s Big Mac, Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich, and Wendy’s Frosty.

As All Recipes reports, Burger King, that menu item is, of course, the Whopper. The flame-grilled Whopper is beloved by many (including celebrities Travis Kelce and Dolly Parton) for its quarter-pound patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mayo on a toasted sesame seed bun—and that’s before all the new recipe iterations.

However, despite the Whopper’s iconic status, Burger King is constantly taking guest feedback—even going so far as to give customers a direct line to text or call the brand president, Tom Curtis. And, after countless fan requests, Burger King is making changes to its beloved Whopper for the first time in nearly 10 years.

BK is elevating its Whopper experience with three small tweaks to the burger. Firstly, the Whopper will now be served in a box, instead of the simple wrapped paper. That will ensure that your Whopper looks just as good in your car as did coming out of the kitchen. It will also hopefully mean no more squished burgers or ingredients squeezing out the sides.

Next, BK is changing two of the actual Whopper ingredients to enhance the fan-loved burger’s flavor. The bun and mayo have both gotten an upgrade to make them taste better and be a bit more premium.

The actual build of the burger—including onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mayo, and a quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty—is not changing. But BK says the minor tweaks are in direct response to what fans have criticized in the Whopper.

“The Whopper is an icon, so we didn’t set out to reinvent it. Instead, we elevated it based on direct guest feedback,” said Tom Curtis in a press release.

The new, higher-quality Whopper is available now at all Burger King restaurants nationwide. If you have more feedback for BK about the Whopper or its other menu items, the number to text or call Curtis is (305) 874-0520.
