Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey to Headline Sondheim Revival in London

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are stepping back into the spotlight together—but this time, on stage rather than on screen. The pair, who recently filmed Wicked as Glinda and Fiyero, are set to co-star in a highly anticipated revival of Sunday in the Park with George at the Barbican Centre in London.

Scheduled for summer 2027, this new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize–winning musical will see Grande taking on the role of Dot, while Bailey portrays the post-Impressionist painter Georges Seurat. The show will be directed by Marianne Elliott, whose previous work includes award-winning revivals of Company and Angels in America. Scenic design will come courtesy of Tom Scutt, further raising expectations for a visually arresting staging.

For Grande, this marks a major theatrical return. Though globally known as a pop sensation, she launched her career in 2008 as part of Broadway’s 13: The Musical. The upcoming production will be her West End debut and her first professional stage role in nearly two decades.

Jonathan Bailey, no stranger to the London stage, won an Olivier Award under Elliott’s direction in Company. Their creative reunion adds depth to a project already brimming with artistic pedigree.

The announcement came via a joint Instagram post from the stars, featuring visual nods to Seurat’s painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, the artwork that inspired the original musical. The choice of imagery signals a sophisticated and reverent approach to a production beloved by theatre aficionados.

With Grande and Bailey’s growing international fanbases, interest in the revival is expected to skyrocket as ticket details emerge in the coming year. Until then, fans can mark their calendars and prepare for a summer where art, music, and celebrity align in spectacular fashion.
