Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear will be sidelined for several upcoming performances after suffering a broken foot in an unusual accident. The band broke the news on social media, leaning into its signature humor by describing the injury as a “bizarre gardening accident,” a playful nod to rock lore while confirming Smear will need time off for recovery.
Smear’s injury, which involved multiple fractures in his left foot, means he will miss a handful of dates on the band’s early 2026 schedule. To ensure their live shows go on uninterrupted, Foo Fighters have enlisted Jason Falkner to step in on guitar. Falkner is a respected musician with credits alongside Beck, St. Vincent, and other acts.
The lineup change affects key shows, including a January 10 concert in Guanajuato, Mexico; an important January 14 benefit show at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles; and a January 24 performance in Tasmania, Australia. Despite the setback, the band’s broader tour plans remain intact, with major summer festival appearances and international dates on the horizon.
Fans have been sending well‑wishes to Smear as he focuses on healing, and the band has made clear its intention to have him back on stage once he has fully recovered.
