John Michael Montgomery Ends Touring Days at 60, Embraces Life Off the Road

Country music star John Michael Montgomery has reached a major milestone in his life and career as he steps away from the touring lifestyle at age 60. The veteran singer, known for hits throughout the 1990s and beyond, recently performed his final show in Lexington, Kentucky, marking the end of an era on the road. In an emotional reflection leading up to the concert, Montgomery acknowledged that constant traveling and performing had become harder on his body and voice, and he realized that the rigors of touring “felt like a young man’s game.” With decades of performances behind him, he decided it was time to shift priorities and spend more time with family and loved ones.

Montgomery emphasized that although he is retiring from the road, his connection to music remains strong. He still loves performing for audiences and may pursue select appearances that don’t involve the demanding schedule of full tours. As he embraces this new chapter, Montgomery plans to enjoy life beyond hotel rooms, buses, and airports and focus on the personal chapters of life that have waited in the wings.
