Ariana Grande is using her platform to urge people to rethink a pervasive habit: commenting on others’ bodies. On November 29 she shared a set of clips via her Instagram Stories under the heading “Friendly Reminder,” drawing from a 2024 interview in which she reflected on decades of unsolicited remarks about her appearance.
Grande described feeling like “a specimen in a Petri dish” ever since her teens — constantly scrutinized about her body, clothes, face, even when she made changes to appease critics. But she pointed out that such criticism always shifted: once one thing was “fixed,” something else would come under attack.
Calling this normalization of commentary “dangerous,” Grande stressed the emotional toll it can take. She said that even if someone seems confident outwardly, the judgment can chip away at self‑esteem and mental well‑being. She credited her strong support system with helping her maintain self‑worth, but urged others to protect themselves from “the noise.”
Grande also reminded followers that appearances can be deceiving. In a 2023 confessional she admitted that a body shape many considered “ideal” came during a time of deep personal struggle, including poor health, antidepressant use, and unhealthy habits. Her message: external ideals often mask internal battles, and nobody’s body — nor health — tells the whole story.
Through her post, Grande is advocating for compassion and empathy in a culture where superficial judgments are often treated as harmless. Her appeal is simple: next time you think about commenting on someone’s appearance — don’t.
