Slash Blames Tech Glitch, Not Drummer, for Axl Rose’s Onstage Blowup

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose sent fans into a frenzy during a recent show in Buenos Aires when he kicked the bass drum and abruptly exited the stage. The spectacle, which unfolded during the band’s explosive opener “Welcome to the Jungle,” sparked widespread speculation that it signaled internal tensions, particularly with new drummer Isaac Carpenter.

But according to lead guitarist Slash, the drama had nothing to do with the man behind the kit. Speaking on Trunk Nation, Slash clarified that a technical failure with Rose’s in-ear monitors was to blame. Instead of hearing the full band mix, Axl was bombarded solely by the drums, making it impossible to perform comfortably.

As the band scrambled to fix the issue, confusion ensued, leading to what appeared onstage as a meltdown. However, Slash assured fans that the gesture toward the drum kit was a desperate attempt to signal the sound crew—not a dig at Carpenter.

To dispel the rumors, Guns N’ Roses released an official statement backing up Slash’s version of events, reiterating that Carpenter’s playing was not at fault. In fact, the band praised Carpenter’s contribution since joining, citing his talent and positive energy.

Formerly of AWOLNATION, Carpenter has quickly become a fan favorite, injecting fresh momentum into the band’s high-octane performances. Slash commended his audition and ongoing impact, noting that Carpenter fit in right from the start.

Guns N’ Roses continue their South American leg of the “What You Want & What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things” tour, with upcoming stops in São Paulo, Curitiba, Cuiabá, Brasília, Lima, and Mexico City.
