Doechii Turns Up the Heat with Hip-Hop Homage to Charli XCX

Doechii kicked off her “Live From the Swamp” Tour in style, bringing a bold blend of performance art, hip-hop finesse, and pop culture savvy to Chicago’s Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom on October 14. The Tampa-born rapper-singer fused her 2022 breakout track “Persuasive” with Charli XCX’s electrifying “360” from the Brat album, creating a moment of surprise and fan-fueled energy that set the tone for the tour.

Perched on a school desk that matched her tour’s “Doechii’s School of Hip-Hop” theme, she invited the crowd into her world with a visual and musical twist. Her twin sisters, also featured as dancers, helped elevate the mash-up into a full-blown spectacle. It was a nod to Brat Summer and a declaration that Brat Fall has officially arrived.

The tour comes on the heels of a whirlwind year for Doechii. She grabbed her first Grammy, cracked the top 10 on both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, and delivered standout sets at All Things Go, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands. Her recent collaborations — from remixing The Weeknd and Playboi Carti’s “Timeless” to linking with Alemeda on the fierce new single “Beat A B!tch Up” — showcase a rising artist unwilling to be boxed in.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX has remained a commanding force in pop’s left field. Between preparing a Wuthering Heights soundtrack with Jack Antonoff and a memorable SNL performance, she continues to define the aesthetic and sonic edge of the moment. Though the pair haven’t officially teamed up yet, Doechii’s “360” moment suggests the fan dream isn’t far-fetched.

With major cities ahead and a Camp Flog Gnaw finale in sight, Doechii’s “Live From the Swamp” Tour promises more than just a concert — it’s a campaign for next-gen hip-hop supremacy, waged in classroom couture.
