Seattle Mariners End 24-Year Drought, Clinch 2025 AL West Title

In a 9-2 rout over the Colorado Rockies, the Seattle Mariners clinched the 2025 American League West division crown, their first since 2001. The watershed moment came as Cal Raleigh launched two monumental homers—his 59th and 60th of the season—cementing his spot among the elite in baseball history. Raleigh’s power display was the highlight, becoming the first catcher ever to smash 60 in a season and the seventh player in MLB lore to reach that plateau.

His eighth-inning blast, reportedly cleared the third deck, punctuated a night to remember. But it was a team effort. Starting pitcher Luis Castillo was dominant, tossing 7⅓ innings of one-run, one-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and no walks. The bullpen locked down the Rockies the rest of the way, preserving Seattle’s breakthrough.

“This has been his year,” said manager Dan Wilson of Raleigh’s performance during postgame remarks. The Mariners also celebrated ending a long championship drought and securing home-field momentum heading into the postseason. With this title, Seattle returns to the postseason spotlight—ambitious, hungry, and now with historic proof that the 2025 team has both the heart and the firepower to compete.
