Paige Bueckers Shatters Rookie Scoring Record Despite Another Narrow Wings Loss

Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers once again captured headlines—this time by tying the WNBA rookie single-game scoring record and delivering one of the most efficient performances in league history. In a hard-fought 81–80 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, she poured in 44 points on 17-of-21 shooting (80.9%), including a perfect 4-of-4 from deep and 6-of-6 at the line. This marked the highest-scoring game by a rookie since Cynthia Cooper’s debut 44-point explosion in 1997.

Bueckers led the Wings across multiple statistical fronts, averaging 18.8 points, 5.4 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game—highlighting her all-around dominance on a struggling team.

Despite her brilliance, the Wings’ 9–27 record leaves them near the bottom of the standings, as injuries to key players have plagued the roster.

Her scoring consistency continues to break ground: Bueckers recently surpassed Cynthia Cooper as she extended her consecutive double-digit scoring streak to 29 games, placing her third all-time among WNBA rookies.

Supported by UConn legend Diana Taurasi’s optimistic prediction that Bueckers could become the league’s best, the rookie sensation is cementing her legacy—even in hardship.
