Jacob Elordi, best known for Euphoria and Saltburn, transforms into a deeply human creature in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein, co-starring Oscar Isaac as the tormented Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Brought on just nine weeks before production after Andrew Garfield’s exit, Elordi’s raw presence and expressive eyes convinced del Toro to push forward under tight pressure.
The role demanded physical and emotional commitment—Elordi spent over ten hours daily in makeup, becoming a figure both haunting and poignant. Oscar Isaac praised Elordi’s performance as “graceful, beautiful, sad, and rageful,” a testament to the layered complexity he brings to the character.
Set against the Crimean War backdrop, this Frankenstein diverges from classic horror, exploring themes of forgiveness and humanity. Mia Goth plays dual roles, as Victor’s fiancée and his mother, enhancing the psychological dimension of the narrative.
The film debuts at the Venice Film Festival on August 30, with a limited theatrical release starting October 17, and will stream on Netflix from November 7.
Elordi’s leap into the creature’s shoes isn’t just a career milestone—it’s a leap into a performance that promises to redefine cinematic monsters as deeply emotional beings.
