Could Metallica be the band to bring rock back to the Super Bowl stage? Drummer Lars Ulrich says the answer is an emphatic yes.
In a candid interview with Howard Stern on August 6, the Metallica co-founder expressed excitement about the possibility of headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show—something no rock band has done since The Who in 2010. “F–k yeah, of course, we would,” Ulrich declared. “To do it in San Francisco would be a dream come true. We haven’t been approached, but it’d be the right fit.”
Ulrich also teased another possible milestone for the legendary metal band: a future residency at the high-tech Las Vegas Sphere. While nothing has been confirmed, he admitted, “It’s something that we’re considering when the 2026 tour is done.”
Metallica—formed in 1981 and still going strong with Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo—remains one of the most iconic rock bands in history. With decades of global touring and nine Grammy wins under their belt, a Super Bowl performance would be a long-awaited celebration of rock’s legacy.
Whether on football’s biggest stage or in the immersive glow of the Sphere, Metallica is clearly still hungry for epic moments.
