Country icon Reba McEntire is lending her voice to a growing movement to protect public broadcasting as PBS faces a potential $1.1 billion cut under the proposed Rescissions Act.
In a heartfelt video posted to her social media, McEntire urged fans to stand with PBS, praising the network’s lifelong commitment to education and the arts. “PBS has done so much for us,” she said. “From children’s programming to science and live performances—it’s a lifeline for learning.”
McEntire encouraged supporters to visit ProtectMyPublicMedia.org to learn how to take action. “If you believe in PBS like I do, let’s make sure it continues to deliver the incredible programming we all love.”
The cuts, which would eliminate already-approved funding for public media, have been championed by former President Donald Trump, who called defunding PBS and NPR “very important” in a recent social media post. He warned Republicans that support for public broadcasting could cost them his endorsement.
Advocates fear that such drastic funding losses could jeopardize access to free educational content, especially in underserved communities.
McEntire’s message is part of a broader push from artists, educators, and viewers to preserve public broadcasting as a vital cultural institution. As she put it simply: “Let’s not lose something so important.”
