‘With Love, Meghan’: A Lavish Lifestyle Show Misses the Mark

Meghan Markle’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, aspires to position the Duchess of Sussex as a contemporary lifestyle guru. Across its eight episodes, Markle engages in various domestic activities—cooking, crafting, and entertaining—often alongside celebrity guests. However, the series has been met with widespread criticism for its perceived lack of authenticity and relatability.

Stuart Heritage of The Guardian describes the show as “pointless,” likening it to “gormless lifestyle filler” that fails to offer substantive content. Similarly, The Times critic Carol Midgley labels the series “smug, syrupy, and endlessly spoofable,” criticizing its portrayal of an unattainable lifestyle under the guise of simplicity.

The series attempts to showcase Markle’s domestic skills, from preparing elaborate meals to engaging in DIY projects. Yet, many reviewers find these segments lacking depth and practical value. The New York Post refers to the show as an “exercise in narcissism,” highlighting its focus on Markle’s persona over genuine instructional content.

Audience reactions have mirrored critical sentiments, with viewers expressing disappointment over the show’s perceived superficiality. Social media platforms are rife with commentary on the series’ disconnect from the realities faced by everyday individuals, especially during challenging economic times.

While With Love, Meghan aims to offer insight into Meghan Markle’s approach to homemaking and hospitality, it appears to have missed the mark with both critics and audiences. The show’s emphasis on opulence, coupled with a lack of practical guidance, has led to its characterization as out of touch and inauthentic.
