Burrow and Chase Shine, But Bengals Come Up Short
Burrow delivered an impressive performance with 428 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Chase tallied 11 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns, nearly breaking his career-high record. Their chemistry kept Cincinnati in the game, but a failed 2-point attempt left the Bengals (4-6) one point shy of victory.
A Tale of Missed Opportunities
Cincinnati led 21-7 in the third quarter before a game-changing fumble recovery by Baltimore’s Marlon Humphrey allowed the Ravens to mount a comeback with a 21-0 scoring run. Burrow responded by connecting with Chase for a stunning 70-yard touchdown, tying the game at 28. When the Ravens retook the lead with under two minutes remaining, Burrow and Chase struck again with a 5-yard touchdown in the final minute. However, the missed 2-point conversion attempt meant the Bengals couldn’t close out the win.
Frustration Despite Stellar Stats
Despite standout performances this season, the Bengals find themselves under .500, a point of frustration for Chase. “I would never, in a million years, expect me to play this well and he play this well and we still have a record like this,” he said. Burrow echoed the sentiment, citing the play of defensive end Trey Hendrickson, the NFL’s leading sack leader, as further evidence of the team’s potential.
Bengals’ Playoff Hopes in Question
As Cincinnati navigates a challenging season with incredible individual performances but missed opportunities, the team is left searching for ways to turn these efforts into consistent wins. Coach Zac Taylor praised Burrow and Chase’s “incredible” plays, yet acknowledged that Thursday’s game was a snapshot of the season’s frustrations.
The Bengals will need a renewed team effort to overcome a rocky season and maximize the potential of their talented roster.
