Designers, stylists, celebrities and more gathered at the American Museum of Natural History on last week to celebrate the best of the best in fashion at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards.
As Fashionista reports, actor and singer Cynthia Erivo hosted the Amazon Fashion-sponsored event, opening the red carpet in a custom witchy hooded Gap gown by Zac Posen, balancing the night’s “American Black Tie” theme with her continuing “Wicked” press tour perfectly.
Though most nominees were itching to find out the status of their awards throughout the night, there were a handful of previously announced honorees who didn’t have to think twice about whether or not they were going home with a trophy.
Some of those moments included Andre 3000 presenting Erykah Badu with the Fashion Icon Award, Blake Lively presenting Michael Kors with the Positive Change Award, Anna Wintour presenting Annie Leibovitz with the Media Award in honor of the late fashion writer Eugenia Sheppard, and Daniel Roseberry receiving the International Award for his work with Schiaparelli.
On the carpet, Roseberry told Fashionista, “There’s a lot of young designers in the room tonight, but I think it takes about a year or two as a young designer to really start to understand what it takes to do this job. So for me, tonight is about celebrating the masters of American fashion, like Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, who are going to be in the room.”
