In the ongoing resurgence of traditional country music, Jake Worthington has solidified his place as one of the genre’s most promising young stars. Known for capturing the essence of ’90s country with his fresh, yet familiar sound, Worthington is breathing new life into the genre. And now, with his recent signing to Big Loud Texas—an imprint co-founded by Miranda Lambert and Jon Randall—his career is set to reach new heights.
A New Home at Big Loud Texas
Originally signed to Big Loud Records, where he released his well-received self-titled album in 2023, Worthington has now transitioned to Big Loud Texas, a label designed to preserve the “outlaw” spirit of country music. Lambert announced the move during a Mutt Nation benefit concert in Nashville on October 5, confirming Worthington as the second artist on the Big Loud Texas roster, alongside Dylan Gossett.
“I’m really proud to say, I get to announce this from stage tonight,” Lambert told the crowd. “Our sole job [at Big Loud Texas] is to keep the outlaw movement going and to keep the great stuff from the great state of Texas out there for the people. And as of last week, we got one of my favorite artists of all time on our label—Jake Worthington! He is country as a biscuit, and I love it!”
Keeping Traditional Country Alive
Worthington’s move to Big Loud Texas couldn’t come at a better time. As a young artist dedicated to preserving the roots of country music, his career aligns perfectly with the label’s mission to continue the outlaw movement and showcase Texas talent. Worthington, originally from LaPorte, Texas, first burst onto the national scene as a contestant on The Voice in 2014, where he finished second in the competition’s sixth season.
Though it took some time for traditionalists to fully embrace him, Worthington has since earned his place in both the Texas and Nashville country music scenes. Known for his deep respect for country’s legacy, he’s often compared to ’90s legends like Mark Chesnutt—artists who also balanced mainstream success with traditional sounds.
“I believe in country music as much as I believe in my next breath,” Worthington said, reflecting on his upbringing. “Blame it on my raising, but I think there ought to be room for country in country music.”
A Collaboration with Miranda Lambert
Adding to his momentum, Worthington recently teamed up with Miranda Lambert for a duet titled “Hello Shitty Day,” a bold and raw country track that highlights his vocal versatility and ability to collaborate with major stars in the genre. The release further showcases his rising profile and the growing interest in traditional country music.
Looking to the Future
With 2023 marking a significant year in his career, Worthington’s move to Big Loud Texas opens the door to even greater opportunities. His commitment to keeping country music “country” makes him the perfect fit for a label that aims to preserve the genre’s outlaw spirit while nurturing Texas talent.
Worthington’s success, coupled with the resurgence of traditional sounds in country, suggests that the timing is right for both him and Big Loud Texas to take the country music world by storm. As he continues to write and perform, his journey as part of this new label will undoubtedly be one to watch, with fans eagerly awaiting what comes next.
