The Dallas Cowboys’ defense is facing internal disagreements following their crushing 44-19 defeat to the New Orleans Saints. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and star linebacker Micah Parsons have conflicting views on what went wrong.
Parsons, who recorded three tackles during the game, attributed the defensive struggles to a lack of effort on his podcast, stating, “We weren’t flying to the ball or striking blocks well enough.” However, Zimmer disagreed with Parsons’ assessment. “I don’t really think it was an effort issue,” Zimmer said. “That team beat us off the snap quite a few times… We didn’t get moving quick enough… I just got to do a better job.”
Despite the differing opinions, Parsons defended Zimmer, praising his play-calling and suggesting the issue was more about execution. “To me, it had nothing to do with the scheme,” Parsons said. “I thought [Mike Zimmer] called a pretty good game. At the end of the day, I just believe we got outplayed.”
The Cowboys are now preparing to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. With both Zimmer and Parsons acknowledging the need for improvement, addressing the defensive lapses—whether they stem from effort or execution—will be a priority in the coming days.
