11-Year-Old Guitar Prodigy Stuns ‘AGT’ with Epic Performance of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets”

Maya Neelakantan, an 11-year-old guitar sensation from India, took the stage by storm on America’s Got Talent (AGT) during the quarterfinals on Tuesday night (August 27th). This time, she amazed the audience and judges alike with a powerful rendition of Metallica’s iconic track, “Master of Puppets.”

Earlier this year, Maya wowed viewers with her impressive performance of Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” during her AGT audition in June. But for the quarterfinals, she took on the challenge of Metallica’s intricate and technically demanding piece, widely regarded as one of the band’s greatest achievements.

Standing confidently centerstage, Maya, with her signature smile, led the house band of metal musicians through the legendary riffs and chorus of “Master of Puppets.” She then showcased her exceptional talent with some jaw-dropping shredding, even replicating Kirk Hammett’s nuanced solo section by using a pedal to transform her Flying V guitar’s sound into that of an acoustic instrument.

The judges were blown away by her performance. Howie Mandel enthusiastically remarked, “That was like Van Halen reincarnated. You’re a surprise. You’re amazing!” Even the often-critical Simon Cowell expressed his admiration, also thanking Metallica for allowing Maya to perform their song on AGT, a rare honor.

Maya graciously acknowledged Metallica and the family of Cliff Burton for enabling her incredible performance during her onstage interview.

Maya’s AGT journey continues to captivate audiences after gaining attention from renowned metal guitarists like Tool’s Adam Jones with her impressive YouTube covers, including a 22-song Tool medley.
