During his performance at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo on Saturday, Aug. 24, Scotty McCreery halted his show to address a disturbing incident in the audience. The country singer, who won American Idol, noticed a man allegedly assaulting a woman and immediately intervened.
Jessica Rosario, a concertgoer, captured the moment on video, showing McCreery, 30, pausing just as he began to perform “It Matters To Her.” Rosario explained, “Scotty was talking about his wife’s favorite song when he noticed a man hitting a woman. He stopped the show and called for security.”
In the video, McCreery can be heard addressing the man directly: “Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir. Absolutely not, you just hit the lady. Police? Security? Is she okay? Get the heck out of here.”
He then expressed disbelief, saying, “On God’s green earth. At a Scotty McCreery show? What are you doing?” McCreery continued to call out the alleged attacker, stating, “Whoever you are, that’s the definition of a coward, hitting a lady. Get the heck out of here.”
After ensuring security had the situation under control, McCreery checked in with the crowd and resumed his performance. The identities of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, and it’s unclear if the man was arrested.
Olga Robak, director of communications with The Colorado Department of Agriculture, confirmed the incident and stated that it is still under investigation. Anyone with information or footage of the incident is encouraged to contact Colorado State Fair Security at csf.security@state.co.us.
