Journey has reportedly canceled the U.K. and Ireland dates of their 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour, following the latest developments in the ongoing legal battle between keyboardist Jonathan Cain and founding guitarist Neal Schon.
The tour was set to begin in Cardiff, Wales, on October 30, with additional stops planned in cities like Glasgow, Dublin, and London. However, the band informed ticketholders via email that the shows were canceled due to “circumstances beyond the band’s control.”
The dispute between Cain and Schon, which has been brewing for years, escalated recently when Cain filed a court motion to resolve a deadlock over Freedom 2020, the company managing the band’s tour finances. Both Cain and Schon hold equal stakes in the company, but they have sharply disagreed on its management. Cain’s attorneys have accused Schon of excessive spending and mismanagement, while Schon’s legal team has denied these claims, suggesting that Cain’s actions are self-serving.
This internal conflict has reportedly created a toxic environment on tour, leading to crew departures and straining relationships within the band. The cancellation of the U.K. and Ireland dates adds to the uncertainty surrounding the tour, although the North American leg, which includes performances with Def Leppard, remains unaffected.
The legal case continues, with a final hearing scheduled for early September. The outcome may determine the future of the band’s ongoing tour and its internal dynamics.
