Sony Eyes Queen’s Music Catalog in $1 Billion Deal

Sony is reportedly on the verge of acquiring the legendary rock band Queen’s music library for a staggering $1 billion, as per Cleveland.com.

While no official announcement has been made, Billboard indicates that Universal Music Group and Disney have also been in discussions with Queen’s legal team.

The potential deal is expected to encompass rights to the band’s logos, music videos, merchandise, publishing, and various business opportunities.

If Sony secures the catalog for $1 billion, it would mark their largest music acquisition to date. Previously, Sony invested nearly $600 million for a 50% stake in Michael Jackson’s music and paid $500 million for Bruce Springsteen’s catalog in 2021.

Despite the passing of original lead singer Freddie Mercury, Queen remains a chart-topping force. The band is currently fronted by former American Idol contestant Adam Lambert, alongside guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.

Since its inception in 1970, Queen has sold over 300 million records, producing timeless hits such as “We Are the Champions,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
