Being Tha Doggfather is one thing, but being a grandfather is another! On Saturday, July 27, Snoop Dogg shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes picture on Instagram, revealing how he’s balancing his “grandfather duties” with his many roles at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
In the image, the 52-year-old rapper and Olympic torchbearer can be seen squatting down to tie his granddaughter’s Adidas sneakers as she stood patiently. “Grandpa’s duties while at the Olympics 💕🇺🇸😘🔥,” Snoop captioned the post. This comes just one day after he proudly carried the Olympic torch through the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis during the opening ceremony.
Snoop’s son, Cordell Broadus, also shared the touching moment on his Instagram, writing: “Medici Family @ the opening ceremony Daddy O accomplished another side mission the game is to be sold not told… 3 letters DNA ✅😤.”
Snoop Dogg is a father to sons Corde, 29, and Cordell, 27, as well as daughter Cori, 25, with his wife, Shante Broadus. Earlier this year on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Snoop revealed he has a “total of 12 grandkids” of various ages and sizes, all of whom he loves dearly.
“My grandpa was my best friend, and for me to be that for my grandkids is showing that I actually did well and I was able to outlive the circumstances,” Snoop said in a past interview. “Now I can look back — I can teach those who want to get to this level, or at least give them a blueprint and help them avoid some of the traps that I had to deal with.”
In addition to his role as a torchbearer, Snoop Dogg is assisting NBC with their Olympics coverage, providing “regular reports” throughout the event. “I grew up watching the Olympics and am thrilled to see the incredible athletes bring their A-game to Paris,” Snoop said in a statement. “It’s a celebration of skill, dedication, and the pursuit of greatness.”
Reflecting on the significance of his role, Snoop shared how he thought back to Muhammad Ali’s iconic moment lighting the Olympic cauldron during the 1996 Atlanta Games. “It was emotional for all of us to see the champ holding that torch and walking up there. This is my own version of it,” he told NBC sportscaster Mike Tirico. “I don’t want to get too emotional, but I know that this is special.”
Snoop’s participation in the Olympics showcases the unity between America and France and highlights his pride in being part of such a prestigious event. “I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this,” he said.
