Keanu Reeves, the star of “The Matrix,” is contemplating his mortality as he nears 60, just like many others do with age. “I’m 59, so I’m thinking about death all the time,” Reeves shared with news outlets. “I’m young old.”
Reeves is currently promoting his first novel, “The Book of Elsewhere,” which draws from the “BRZRKR” comic book series he co-created with British science fiction author China MiĆ©ville. The novel follows B, an immortal warrior grappling with a death wish, a theme that has intensified Reeves’ thoughts on mortality.
Reflecting on his preoccupation with death, Reeves said he’s trying to maintain a balanced perspective. “Hopefully it’s not crippling, but hopefully it’s sensitized [us] to an appreciation of the breath we have, and the relationships that we have the potential to have,” he explained.
While some might see a physical resemblance between B and Reeves, particularly in their shared long dark hair, the actor attributes the character’s violent tendencies to his own experiences in action films. “I think it was influenced by some of the action films that I had done,” said Reeves, whose filmography includes successful franchises like “John Wick.”
As Reeves embarks on this literary journey, he continues to engage with themes of life and death, providing fans with a deeper look into his philosophical musings and creative inspirations.
