Timothée Chalamet is in final negotiations to take the lead role in Josh Safdie’s upcoming film, “Marty Supreme,” produced by A24. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the casting news, although plot details remain under wraps.
“Marty Supreme” is a fictionalized original work, with Safdie set to direct from a script he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein. The project is produced by Safdie, Chalamet, Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Anthony Katagas.
This film marks a reunion between Safdie and A24, following the success of his previous collaborations with his brother Benny Safdie, “Good Time” (2017) and “Uncut Gems” (2019). Though the Safdie brothers are no longer co-directing, they continue to produce together through their company, Elara Pictures. Bronstein, who has writing credits on both “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems,” is again teaming up with Josh Safdie for this project.
“Marty Supreme” is rumored to involve ping-pong, a hint seemingly confirmed by A24’s teaser image shared on social media. The company’s official X (formerly Twitter) account posted, “Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME starring @RealChalamet. Coming soon.”
Chalamet’s recent film credits include “Dune: Part Two,” “Wonka,” and “Bones and All.” He is also set to portray Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biopic “A Complete Unknown,” where he also serves as a producer.
For Safdie, “Marty Supreme” will be his first solo directorial feature since 2008’s “The Pleasure of Being Robbed.” Meanwhile, Benny Safdie is directing “The Smashing Machine,” a biopic about former wrestler and mixed martial artist Mark Kerr, starring Dwayne Johnson, also produced by A24.
The pairing of Chalamet with Safdie in an A24 film has already generated significant buzz, and fans eagerly await further details on “Marty Supreme.”
