Legendary heavy metal band Metallica is heading to Minneapolis, bringing with them a full array of Metallica-themed activities that will electrify the Twin Cities. Following the release of their 11th studio album, “72 Seasons,” in 2023, Metallica is set to perform on August 16 and 18 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Tickets for these highly anticipated shows are still available.
The Metallica Takeover will feature a variety of events for fans to enjoy. On Saturday, August 17, between the band’s performances, there will be bowling, axe throwing, film screenings, and music competitions. Fans can participate in a Bowling Takeover at Memory Lanes in South Minneapolis from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a performance by “And ONE for All” at 8 p.m.
The Minneapolis Institute of Art will host a photo exhibit titled “The Black Album in Black & White,” featuring highlights of Metallica’s career captured by photographer Ross Halfin. Tickets for the exhibit can be found on the institute’s website.
Fans can also catch performances by “Bastardane” and “OTTTO,” bands featuring the sons of Metallica members, at Varsity Theater starting at 7 p.m.
For film enthusiasts, the Metallica Film Fest at Riverview Theater in South Minneapolis will start at 11 a.m., showcasing “Cliff ‘Em All,” “Cunning Stunts,” and “Orgullo, Pasion Y. Gloria: Tres Noches En La Ciudad De Mexico.” Tickets are available online.
Active fans can enjoy free axe throwing at Smash Park in Roseville from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and participate in a “Name That Tune” competition for a chance to win tickets to Metallica’s concerts at U.S. Bank Stadium.
