It’s been an anxiety-inducing week for Willie Nelson fans, but after a string of show cancellations, it seems that the legendary crooner is finally on the mend.
Concerns for the health of the 91-year-old icon began last week when an unspecified illness caused him to miss several appearances on the first leg of his Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” his camp said in a statement. “He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”
However, Nelson’s recovery took longer than anticipated, leading to the cancellation of five shows in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and upstate New York.
Over the weekend, there was finally some good news for his dedicated fans. “Willie Nelson has been cleared by his doctors to go back on the road again,” read a June 28 statement shared on his social media accounts. “He will resume performing on the Outlaw Tour next week.”
The next scheduled tour stop is in Mansfield, Massachusetts, on July 2, followed by Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic in Camden, New Jersey, on July 4.
Despite his age, Nelson remains determined to continue touring. “I have everything I need on the [tour] bus,” Nelson told AARP last year. “I never have to go into a hotel room anywhere. It’s not that bad.”
“Working is really good for me,” he added, indicating that he has no plans to retire from the road anytime soon.
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Willie Nelson is on the mend and ready to share his music once again.
