Another day, another recall that affects our precious pups. This time, it comes from a popular dog food brand that has been around for decades.
As Parade magazine reports, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), dog pawrents who feed their pooches Pedigree may need to take a second look at the variety they’re serving as a voluntary recall has been issued. Effective immediately, Mars Petcare US—the parent company of Pedigree—is recalling 315 bags of Pedigree’s Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food in the 44-pound bag size. The reason? There may be a presence of loose metal pieces in the bags.
A frightening discovery announced on March 17 by the company, the limited recall were sold by Walmart stores in four states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The best by date for the affected bags is listed as March 4, 20245 and includes a lot code of 410B2TXT02, both of which can be found non the bottom seal of the back of the bag.
Consumption of items such as loose metal pieces can pose a health hazard to pets. In the event your dog has been affected, it is encouraged for you to monitor your pet for unusual behavior and contact your veterinarian should you have any concerns.
While there have been no reported pet injuries or illnesses to date, Mars Petcare urges pet parents who have the food in their possession to cease use of the product immediately. Additionally, you should contact the company should you have any questions or to initiate your return at 1-800-525-5273 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST, Saturday and Sunday.
