Jennifer Lopez, ever the professional, kept her focus firmly on her work while promoting her new Netflix film Atlas in Mexico City on Wednesday, May 22. The actress and producer, 54, faced an unexpected personal question from a reporter regarding her rumored divorce from Ben Affleck.
In a room full of press, the unidentified reporter asked, “Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumors? What is the truth? Para la prensa mexicana, what is the truth of the situation?”
Before Lopez could respond, her costar Simu Liu stepped in. “Okay, we’re not doing that,” Liu asserted. “Thank you so much, guys. We really appreciate it. Thank you.”
Lopez, maintaining her composure, leaned in and addressed the reporter directly. “You know better than that,” she said calmly.
“C’mon, don’t come in with that energy, please,” Liu added.
Liu continued to steer the conversation back to the film. “If I could just end on one thing,” he said, “Jen is a producer on this movie, and the reason why I am here and why Sterling [K. Brown] was in this beautiful movie is because Jen cares. And Jen cares about things like representation and diversity, and she’s a boss.”
Lopez concluded the press conference by addressing the attendees in Spanish. “Thank you. No one asked me anything in Spanish, but okay.” She blew a kiss and smiled, lightening the mood as the room erupted in laughter.
Despite the personal challenges Lopez is reportedly facing in her marriage to Ben Affleck, she remains dedicated to her professional commitments. A source connected to Lopez mentioned earlier this week that their marriage is “not in the best place at the moment,” with the couple living apart recently.
Affleck was notably absent from the Los Angeles premiere of Atlas on Monday and the Mexico City event on Tuesday. Instead, he was seen dining at a popular Italian restaurant in Santa Monica. Both Lopez and Affleck have been spotted wearing their wedding rings this week, suggesting that they are still together despite the rumors.
Lopez and Affleck’s relationship has been a rollercoaster over the years. The pair first met on the set of Gigli in 2001, became engaged, but split in 2004. They rekindled their romance nearly two decades later and married in a small ceremony in Las Vegas in 2022.
