Glen Powell, celebrated for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” is reportedly in negotiations to star in the next film directed by JJ Abrams, as revealed by TheWrap. While details about the film’s plot remain under wraps, Powell is said to be Abrams’ top choice for the lead role, signaling a potentially significant collaboration between the actor and the renowned director.
This development adds to Powell’s increasingly busy schedule. Earlier the same day, it was announced that he would join Anthony Mackie and Laura Dern in “Monsanto,” a new film by John Lee Hancock, known for “The Blind Side” and “Saving Mr. Banks.” Powell’s engagement in the industry doesn’t stop there; he stars in “Hit Man,” a film he co-wrote with Richard Linklater, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and is slated for a Netflix release after its theatrical debut.
Additionally, Powell will appear in “Twisters,” a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster, later this summer. If Powell secures the role in Abrams’ project, it will mark a significant addition to his expanding filmography and Abrams’ first directorial effort since “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019.
