Angelina Jolie revealed a meaningful new tattoo during the Broadway premiere of “The Outsiders,” a project where she serves as producer. The tattoo, which reads “Stay Gold,” is a poignant nod to the theme of the S.E. Hinton novel and subsequent adaptations that inspired the show. This addition to Jolie’s extensive collection of ink was prominently displayed as she walked the red carpet with her daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, who is actively involved in the production.
At the event on April 11 in New York, Jolie shared insights into her professional relationship with her daughter, describing Vivienne as a “tough assistant” who ensures meticulous adherence to production details. Their dynamic seems to be a blend of personal and professional as they navigate the complex landscape of Broadway together.
The “Stay Gold” motif resonated so deeply with the show’s team that Justin Levine, the co-book writer and score creator, along with several other members, including director Danya Taymor, also committed to the same tattoo. These were done by Mark Mahoney, a renowned tattoo artist and a personal friend of Jolie, during a special session at Jolie’s Atelier Jolie, symbolizing a permanent bond over their collective artistic endeavor. This act of unity highlights the deep connection and commitment among the team members to the spirit and message of “The Outsiders.”
