Chris Stapleton brought his distinctive blend of blues and country to “Saturday Night Live,” captivating the audience with two performances from his acclaimed album “Higher.” The celebrated singer-songwriter, making his third appearance on the show, was joined by the evening’s host, Ryan Gosling, adding a star-studded touch to the April 13th episode.
Stapleton’s performance kicked off with “White Horse,” a blues-infused track that showcases his powerful vocals and deep emotional resonance. Accompanied by his wife, Morgane Stapleton, who not only co-produced the song but also provided harmonious backup vocals and played the tambourine, the performance was a family affair that resonated deeply with the audience. “White Horse” has already earned accolades, winning Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
Later in the show, Stapleton returned to the stage to perform “Mountains of My Mind,” a compelling track that closes out the “Higher” album. This song, like many others on the album, features contributions from a talented ensemble of musicians, including producer Dave Cobb and various instrumentalists, enhancing the rich, textured sound that Stapleton is known for.
Recorded in Nashville’s iconic RCA Studio A, “Higher” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, further cementing Stapleton’s status as a cornerstone of contemporary country music. His return to “SNL” not only highlighted his musical prowess but also his deep roots in traditional American music, much to the delight of viewers nationwide.
