Metallica Secures Best Metal Performance Grammy, Celebrates Ninth Win

At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Metallica added another accolade to their legendary status by clinching the Best Metal Performance for their song “72 Seasons,” the title track from their latest album. The award, presented during the Premiere Ceremony, saw bassist Robert Trujillo accepting the trophy on behalf of the band, marking Metallica’s continued dominance in the metal genre with their ninth Grammy win.

Amidst a year where boygenius and Paramore took the spotlight in rock categories, Metallica stood out as the premier heavy act honored at this year’s ceremony. They surpassed other notable nominees such as Disturbed, Ghost, Slipknot, and Spiritbox, further cementing their position as the most awarded metal band in Grammy history.

In his acceptance speech, Trujillo highlighted the importance of family, both personal and professional, and extended thanks to producer Greg Fidelman and the recording team for their integral roles in creating “72 Seasons.” He passionately called for continued musical engagement among the youth, emphasizing the importance of keeping the dream of music alive.

While Metallica faced tough competition in the Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance categories, their win in Best Metal Performance underscores their enduring influence and creativity. Fans of the band have much to look forward to, as Metallica is set to embark on the North American leg of their “M72 World Tour” later this year, promising more electrifying performances from the metal icons.
