Martin Short Clarifies His Relationship with Meryl Streep Amidst Rumors

Martin Short, the celebrated actor and comedian, recently addressed the swirling rumors about him dating Meryl Streep, his co-star in “Only Murders in the Building.” During an appearance on Sunday’s episode of “Club Random with Bill Maher,” Short, 73, firmly dispelled the speculations. “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends,” he stated, responding to Maher’s humorous suggestion that they were a “power couple.”

The rumor mill had been in overdrive since the pair was seen together at the Golden Globes, leading fans to speculate about a romantic relationship. However, Short’s representative had already clarified that they are merely good friends, nothing more.

Short reflected on his late wife, Nancy Dolman, to whom he was married for 30 years until her passing in 2010 due to ovarian cancer. The couple has three children: Katherine, Oliver, and Henry. Short poignantly shared with AARP: The Magazine in 2019 about his ongoing connection with Nancy, saying, “I still communicate with her all the time.”

In contrast, Meryl Streep’s representative confirmed in October that she had been separated from her husband, Don Gummer, for over six years. Despite their separation, the representative emphasized that Streep and Gummer continue to care for each other but have chosen to live their lives apart.
