Golden State Warriors Honor Late Assistant Coach Dejan Milojević in Emotional Tribute Game

In a poignant tribute to their late assistant coach Dejan Milojević, the Golden State Warriors emerged victorious against the Atlanta Hawks, overcoming the immense emotional weight of their first game since Milojević’s passing. Coach Steve Kerr, facing an unparalleled situation, encouraged his team to immerse themselves in the game, a sentiment that resonated deeply with the players.

The evening at Chase Center was a heartfelt homage to Milojević, with both Warriors and Hawks players donning shirts inscribed with “Brate,” meaning “brother” in Serbian, and adorned with Milojević’s initials. This special logo, symbolizing their deep respect and camaraderie, will also feature on the Warriors’ jerseys for the remainder of the season.

In an unconventional but touching move, Kerr urged the audience to give an ovation for Milojević, a sound he hoped would reach the coach in heaven. The Serbian national anthem played, adding a poignant touch to the tribute. Dario Saric, a fellow former Yugoslavian, recalled Milojević’s brotherly influence and his motivational push for excellence.

Before the game, Warriors players placed their tribute jerseys on Milojević’s seat, a gesture of remembrance and respect. His family, present at the game, received a bouquet of white roses, a symbol of purity and remembrance. Klay Thompson shared a personal moment with Milojević’s son, expressing gratitude for their shared memories and Milojević’s family.

As the game commenced, tears were shed, but the Warriors found solace in the sport they loved, playing with a passion that would have made Milojević proud. In this moment of sorrow and reflection, the team not only commemorated their beloved coach but also found a way to channel their grief into a powerful, unifying force on the court.
