Tiger Woods, one of the most celebrated figures in golf, has announced the end of his 27-year partnership with Nike, marking the conclusion of one of the most iconic brand relationships in sports history. Since turning professional in 1996, Woods has been a Nike emblem, his attire on the greens becoming a symbol of excellence in men’s golf.
The partnership with Nike has been a significant part of Woods’ career, accompanying him through 15 major championship victories, 82 PGA Tour wins, and a journey marked by both triumphant comebacks and personal challenges. Woods’ traditional Sunday ensemble of a red Nike shirt, black hat, and pants has become a staple image in professional golf, illustrating the impact of this long-standing association.
In a heartfelt statement, Woods expressed his gratitude for the journey with Nike, crediting Phil Knight’s vision and the brand’s commitment for making their collaboration successful. However, he did not specify his future apparel plans. Since his return from a car accident in 2021, Woods has been spotted wearing FootJoy golf shoes.
Woods hinted at continuing his golf journey, mentioning his participation in the upcoming Genesis at Riviera Country Club, which supports his foundation. His statement, “See you in LA!” suggests the beginning of a new chapter in his illustrious career.
Woods’ association with Nike began with a bang in 1996, marked by a record-breaking endorsement deal and a memorable “Hello, World” campaign. Though Nike ceased its golf equipment line in 2016, Woods continued to use their apparel until now.
Nike, in its tribute, acknowledged Woods’ role in challenging the conventions of golf and inspiring the brand. This change comes as Nike plans significant cost-cutting measures, including layoffs. As this long-standing partnership concludes, the golf world watches as Tiger Woods steps into a new phase of his legendary career.
