Oprah Winfrey Clears the Air on Rumored Rift with Taraji P. Henson

Media titan Oprah Winfrey recently addressed swirling rumors of a rift between her and actress Taraji P. Henson, one of the stars of “The Color Purple,” which Winfrey executive produced. The speculation had been gaining traction online, but Winfrey was quick to clarify the situation.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier at the Golden Globes, Winfrey expressed surprise at being a trending topic due to allegations of not supporting Henson. She emphatically stated that she has been an ardent supporter of the film, taking an active role in both the production and the welfare of the cast and crew. “Taraji will tell you herself that I have been the greatest champion of this film,” Winfrey said, underscoring her commitment to ensuring everything ran smoothly.

The rumors began after Henson commented on the pay disparity between Black and white actors during the press tour for “The Color Purple.” She revealed in an interview that she almost declined the role due to the initial salary offer, sparking a debate on social media about Winfrey’s role in the matter.

Winfrey highlighted her proactive approach in resolving any production issues, from transportation to catering, and firmly believed that Henson would acknowledge her efforts.

Henson herself came forward on Instagram, praising Winfrey as a “steady and solid beacon of light” for the cast and dispelling any notions of conflict. She recounted how Winfrey was readily available to assist her with any needs, emphasizing the ease and effectiveness of their communication.

Addressing additional rumors about their alleged cold behavior during a photo call at the Empire State Building, Winfrey explained that the cold weather was the only factor affecting their body language. She emphasized the lack of validity in claims about a feud between her and Henson, reaffirming their professional and respectful relationship.
