The remake of “The Color Purple” musical film features a special cameo that links the new version to its 1985 predecessor. Whoopi Goldberg, who was Oscar-nominated for her role as Celie in the original movie, appears briefly as a midwife in the new film. This casting decision, as explained by producer Oprah Winfrey, serves as a delightful “Easter egg” for long-time fans and an homage to Goldberg.
While Winfrey considered appearing in the film, she ultimately chose not to, believing Goldberg’s sole presence from the original cast adds a unique charm to the remake. The film, released on Christmas Day, stars Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Taraji P. Henson, and Colman Domingo, connecting past and present in a touching tribute.
