Country star Maren Morris is redefining her path in the music industry, as she candidly discusses in a recent Variety interview. Morris, known for her deep connection to country music, expresses a desire to break free from the constraints of the genre’s industry side. She’s tired of being a ‘yes’ person, seeking to align her career with her personal values and beliefs.
Morris’s awakening came during the 2020 civil rights protests and was further realized at that year’s CMA Awards. Surrounded by a predominantly white audience, she recognized the need for change in the country music scene. However, she doesn’t plan to abandon her country roots or aspire to be a pop star. Instead, she aims to improve the industry from within, inspired by influential artists like the Chicks and her bandmates in the Highwomen.
Residing in Nashville, Morris considers herself a part of the city’s vibrant music community, committed to contributing positively. Her latest work, a two-song EP titled “The Bridge,” featuring “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here,” reflects this new chapter of her career – one where she embraces change while staying true to her country music foundations.
