David Bowie’s Iconic Handwritten Lyrics Fetch Hefty Sum at Auction

The legacy of David Bowie continues to resonate, as evidenced by the recent auction of his handwritten lyrics, which fetched a staggering $113,000. The lyric sheet, featuring Bowie’s creative process for the 1972 hits “Rock n Roll Suicide” and “Suffragette City” from the album “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars,” was auctioned at Omega Auctions.

This rare piece of rock history, previously exhibited at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, offers a unique glimpse into Bowie’s artistic mind. It was originally gifted by Bowie himself at Trident Studio, as noted in an accompanying letter.

Remarkably, this isn’t the first instance of Bowie’s handwritten lyrics commanding a high price. Omega Auctions previously sold the lyrics for “Starman,” another 1972 classic, for nearly $258,000, underscoring Bowie’s enduring appeal and the value of his artistic contributions.
