Metallica Breaks New Ground with Historic Saudi Arabia Performance

Metallica, a titan in the heavy metal world, is set to make history with their first-ever performance in Saudi Arabia. Scheduled for December 14, 2023, at the Soundstorm festival in Riyadh, this landmark concert marks a significant milestone for both the band and the country’s music scene.

This performance at the Soundstorm festival, a massive event attracting over 600,000 attendees last year, places Metallica as the first major international metal act to grace a public stage in Saudi Arabia. The festival, known for its diverse lineup, also features renowned artists like Pharrell Williams, Chris Brown, H.E.R., and Black Eyed Peas.

Metallica’s groundbreaking presence in Saudi Arabia follows the footsteps of the local melodic death metal band, Immortal Pain, who set the stage for metal music at large public events in the country. Prior to this, Metallica’s closest encounter with the Middle Eastern audience was their 2011 show in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

After their Saudi Arabian debut, Metallica’s tour calendar includes the European “M72” tour in May, followed by a North American stint starting in August. This upcoming Riyadh show not only expands Metallica’s global reach but also symbolizes a growing acceptance and appreciation of diverse music genres in Saudi Arabia.
